I've looked in Microsoft's Event Viewer (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer) And only a few noticeable things pop up. Personally, I think the problem might've started before that.

I did also recently install Windows Vista on a seperate harddrive on my computer (My Dell is set up to dual-boot), so I don't know if that would affect it somehow. Some of my research had indicated that one of those patches caused problems simialr to mine on other users' computers, but I installed the fix for that and still nothing changed.

I tried everything but ended up going to Microsoft's download center and installing each security patch manually.

Now, right before this all started, I was having trouble with Windows Update - it would download the updates, but it wouldn't install them. I've been doing research, and it sounded like it might be a corrupt user profile, (I've done a lot of simple tweaking in my registry, but nothing lately) so I created a new profile and tried to run the programs under that one, but they still wouldn't work.

I ran my computer though every online and offline virus/spyware/trojan scan I could think of (though one of the programs that won't run is CCleaner), but they've all come up clean. About the same time this started, I was getting runtime & dll errors with a lot of my games and programs, even after reinstalling them. When I'm in Windows XP (Home Edition), some of my programs refuse to start after I click to open them. I've been having trouble with my computer.

In Parental Controls, users can choose which account they want to apply the restrictions and monitoring, so that they can tweak and configure different filters and multiple controls for multiple users. So parents will need to set up accounts for each of the children or create a single shared account for them. Parental Controls cannot be assigned to Administrator or accounts with administrative privileges. Parental Controls should apply on a limited (or standard) user account in Windows Vista. Inside Control Panel, just double click on Parental Controls. To access Parental Controls, click on Start button and then go to Control Panel. Parental Controls in Windows Vista can be used to manage or control how a minor uses computer by setting limits on user account to restrict on an account’s access to various web pages, limit the time that the kids spend online, or control which games and programs the kids can run. Previously, controlling and monitoring kids’ Internet browsing, surfing, chatting or gaming activities has been a difficult task as operating system doesn’t have built-in strong parental controls utility, causing parents to use a combination of managing user accounts, third party tools and applications to limit and manage their children’s computer privileges.

In Windows Vista, parents who want to manage and monitor their children online and offline activities will have easy-to-use and intuitive protection tool called Parental Controls that can be used to ensure family safety and protect the children safe and secure.
